Living the Sky Life by Barbara Borzi

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So, what’s behind a professional Smile? I’m a cynical person so I can smell the fear and the contempt behind the Smiles of dealers of different things. Yet I do the play with them, scripted or not. But e.g. medical staff, flight attendants: I don’t play. I take what I get and I respect the human behind the Smile. But what’s in there?

As an aficionado of historical aviation I’ve read lots about brave aircrews. Not so much about flight attendants. I grew curious when I got a glimpse of this book. It was time to have a look into luxury and glamour of living the sky life. And behind that Smile.
First it must be said that what there hides behind professional lingo, is well explained in situ, or in the end of the chapter. Lions and honey badgers and sheep are well explained in situ while ‘crop dusting'(giggles) deserves the latter location.
Humour is present, if not jumping out from the sentences, then lurking between the lines almost all the time. And almost all that time you are thrown across the Globe; this is not very different from reading a good adventure with constant explanations to keep the reader’s seat belt buckled the correct way.
The overall impression is positive: I was prepared for a deluge of complaints, or in lesser amount for a glittering Barbie story. Instead I got a healthy lecture why people want to stay in their chosen career. The pros and the cons are in balance, the glitter and the grime well distributed, and the love for the trade wins.
I recommend this book very strongly for everyone, even more for all those air travelling souls. And remember to smile back.
